Q and A with Lawrence Greider

Can you provide us with a Summary of your Book?

At the height of its power and with the world watching, some in envy, others waiting to see the downfall, America is at a crossroads. Will the United States of America dominate the world scene for another hundred years or will internal decay and lack of a common course take it the way of other great empires in the past? Rome, Carthage, Greece, the Soviet Union, and many others who stepped onto the world stage have exited - some in infamy, others in ruin. There is a rich history in America from those who left Europe to find opportunity and religious freedom, and were blessed in their efforts as long as they served God and revered the principles found in the Holy Scriptures. The Founding Fathers were deeply religious men who sought inspiration and received divine guidance. Forces at work today, including the pluralistic mix of our citizenry and the trend toward a post-Christian culture, are reshaping the American ideal. In this book, America, Renewal or Ruin, I discuss the potential for American youth to find and promote renewal in their quest for moral stability if guided by visionary leaders in a conflicted world. History has shown that reawakenings are possible. Now is the time to call upon those whose roots are embedded in their Christian heritage to wake up and take back their country, resisting the forces of ruin.

What makes your book different from other books on the market?

Historians and sociologist have written much about the dynamics of power and influence of nations. Authors like Jim Nelson Black in his book When Nations Die. America on the Brink: Ten Warning Signs of a Culture in Crisis (1994), or Morris Berman's The Twilight of American Culture (2000), or Newt Gingrich's book, Renew America (1995) all catalog the sobering reality of a nation in trouble. America: Renewal or Ruin (2003) suggests that nations are families grown large and that the real solutions lie in recapturing values (such as integrity, honesty and reliance on God) which can slow some of the consequences of poor choices being made by those whose goal is more about self than service. Even Patrick Buchanan's The Death of the West (2002) suggests serious changes are imminent if something isn't done soon. America: Renewal or Ruin is a primer on the beginnings of a favored nation, whose spirit and enthusiasm has been one of the most amazing stories in history and also is a warning about the great historical drift away from God and Christian values. It was also written to challenge Americans to learn lessons from history and recapture true values. Renewal of our country must begin with each individual and spread throughout the homes, communities and cities of our vast nation. At stake are the quality of our lives and the preservation of the American ideal that has made this nation the envy of many. History shows that great nations decay from within rather than fall by external forces. We need a return to values that once made America great and a personal, individual commitment made by parents, teachers, and leaders everywhere to seek virtue and integrity.

Who is your target audience?

Greider: Conservative Americans who want renewal to Godly virtues and values.

What is the most important thing you would like the world to know about you, your writing or your book?

Greider: My interest is in motivating people to think about the difficult challenges that lie ahead for America and the world, and to return to the principles of the great God who blessed this nation with the bounty we enjoy today.
